    Sang Whang was born on October 16, 1931. He lived in Korea until the age of 20, when he was able to immigrate to the U.S.

  2. 1951

    Arrival by ship photographImmigrated to the United States in December 1951 at the age of 20, arriving at San Francisco by ship.

  3. 1955

    Sang Whang memorial photograph

    He married his first wife, Mary, on December 25, 1955. They remained together until she died in 1995 after a ten-year battle with pulmonary fibrosis.

  4. 1956

    Polytechnic Institute photographReceived a bachelor’s degree at the Polytechnic Institute of Brooklyn. He later received his master’s degree at this school.
